About this Ladakh Tour

The perfect short trip — culture, monasteries and one unforgettable lake

Short on days but big on Ladakh? This 5-day trip is built for first-timers and long-weekend travellers. You settle into Leh, visit the region's most beautiful monasteries — Thiksey, Shey and Hemis — and then drive out to the star of the show, Pangong Lake.

We keep Day 1 free for rest, so your body adjusts to Leh's altitude before you head higher over Chang La to the lake. Travel is by private vehicle with a Ladakhi driver-cum-guide, permits are arranged, and we carry oxygen as a precaution.

It skips Nubra Valley to stay short and comfortable — if you'd like Nubra and Khardung La too, take a look at our 6-day circuits.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Five easy-paced days across Leh, the monasteries and Pangong

  • Arrive at Leh airport; our team transfers you to the hotel.
  • Complete rest for the day to adjust to the altitude — the single best thing you can do for a smooth trip.
  • An easy evening walk to Leh market if you're feeling good; dinner and overnight in Leh.
💡 Pro Tip: Hydrate well, avoid alcohol on Day 1, and don't over-exert — let your body settle.
  • Morning at Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace for sweeping views over the old town.
  • Drive the Indus valley to Shey Palace, the grand Thiksey Monastery, and Hemis — Ladakh's largest and wealthiest gompa.
  • Stop at Sindhu Ghat on the Indus before returning to Leh.
  • Dinner and overnight in Leh.
🌟 Note: Reach Thiksey early to catch the morning prayers — it's the most atmospheric time to visit.
  • Set off after breakfast and climb over Chang La (~17,590 ft), one of the world's highest motorable passes.
  • Descend past Tangtse to reach the shores of Pangong Lake by afternoon.
  • Free time to walk the shoreline and watch the water shift through impossible blues.
  • Dinner and overnight at a lakeside camp.
🌟 Note: Nights at Pangong (~14,000 ft) are very cold even in summer — camps provide heavy quilts, but pack thermals.
  • Catch the early light on Pangong — the colours are at their best just after sunrise.
  • Drive back over Chang La towards Leh, with a stop at Karu or a monastery you missed.
  • Arrive Leh by evening; free time for last-minute shopping in the market.
  • Dinner and overnight in Leh.
💡 Pro Tip: Set an early alarm at Pangong — the sunrise reflection is the photo everyone comes home with.
  • After breakfast, transfer to Leh airport for your onward flight.
  • Trip concludes with a camera full of monasteries and mountain-blues.
💡 Pro Tip: Leh flights depart very early and can be weather-affected — keep onward connections loose.
