Best Time: March–June is pleasant and green; December–February brings snow to Shimla, Manali and Kufri; July–September sees monsoon showers and occasional landslides.
How to Reach: The trip is by road in a private vehicle. Most itineraries start from Chandigarh or Delhi; the nearest airports are Chandigarh, Kullu (Bhuntar) and Gaggal (Dharamshala).
Hill Roads: Himachal''s mountain roads are winding and slower than plains. We plan realistic drive times and use experienced local drivers.
Money & Network: Carry some cash for smaller towns; ATMs are in main towns. Mobile network is good in cities and patchy in remote valleys.

The Atal Tunnel is a 9.02 km tunnel under the Rohtang range - one of the world's longest high-altitude highway tunnels. It connects Manali to the remote Lahaul valley year-round, opening up dramatic scenery and snow that was once cut off in winter.
Sissu is a scenic Lahaul village just beyond the tunnel, with a striking waterfall, the Sissu lake, a monastery and wide-open valley views. In winter it becomes a favourite snow destination.
Yes - because it is reached through the all-weather Atal Tunnel, Sissu is accessible even in winter when Rohtang Pass is closed, making it a reliable snow spot.
It is roughly 1.5-2 hours each way, including the tunnel crossing. We do it as a comfortable half to full-day excursion with photo stops.
No special permit is needed to drive through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu, unlike Rohtang Pass. It is open to tourist vehicles year-round, subject to weather.
Yes - Lahaul (Sissu) is higher and colder than Manali, especially in winter. Dress in warm layers, and we build in gentle acclimatisation on arrival day.
Yes - Sissu and the Atal Tunnel are the gateway to Lahaul and onward to Spiti in summer. If you have more days, we can extend this into a Lahaul-Spiti circuit.
