Everything you need to know before you book

This 7-day explorer adds Doi Inthanon national park and two nights in Chiang Rai (rather than a day trip), so you go deeper - waterfalls, the highest peak, the Golden Triangle and hill culture, at a more relaxed pace.

Doi Inthanon is Thailand's highest mountain, a national park with cloud forests, the Wachirathan waterfall, twin royal pagodas and cool weather - a beautiful contrast to the temples and cities.

No special fitness is needed - there is some walking at temples and viewpoints, and short optional trails at Doi Inthanon, but transport covers the distances. It suits most travellers.

Four nights in Chiang Mai and two in Chiang Rai, so both cities get proper time and you are not rushing back the same day from far-flung sights.

There are optional, respectful visits to hill-tribe villages around Chiang Rai. We work with communities where visits are welcomed and benefit locals.

Yes - only ethical, no-riding sanctuaries are used, where you feed and bathe rescued elephants and learn about their welfare.

November to February is cool, clear and ideal, especially for Doi Inthanon. We avoid the hazy March-April burning season.

Chiang Rai has its own airport with domestic flights, usually connecting via Bangkok for international departures. We arrange the routing and transfers.
