Important Notes
Please read before booking
Best Time: October–May is ideal, with clear skies and pleasant weather. June–September is the monsoon — Cherrapunji and Mawsynram are the wettest places on earth — when waterfalls are at their fullest but rain is heavy.
How to Reach: Fly into Guwahati (Assam), the gateway to the North East; Shillong is about a 3-hour scenic drive. Shillong also has a small airport at Umroi. We handle all transfers.
Weather: Carry rain protection year-round — showers can pop up even outside the monsoon. Mornings are best for boating and waterfalls before clouds build.
Money & Network: ATMs are reliable in Shillong and Guwahati; carry cash for villages, boats and entry fees. Mobile network is patchy in remote valleys.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before you book
Yes - Day 4 is a full day to Dawki for the crystal-clear Umngot river and to Mawlynnong, Asia's cleanest village, with the Riwai living root bridge. It covers all the headline sights.
It is the longest day of the trip, as both are near the Bangladesh border a couple of hours from Shillong. We start early to make the most of the light and the clear river.
This 5-day trip adds the Dawki river and Mawlynnong village (and a Cherrapunji overnight), which the 4-day weekend does not fully cover. It is the better choice if you want Meghalaya's iconic river and village.
Yes - the Riwai living root bridge near Mawlynnong is a short, easy walk, unlike the strenuous Nongriat double-decker trek. It is included on the Mawlynnong day.
In the dry season the Umngot river is astonishingly clear - boats seem to hover above the riverbed. Clarity is best from late autumn to spring and in the early morning before the water is stirred.
Comfortable hotels in Shillong and a night in Cherrapunji, all clean and well-located. We can arrange homestays or upgrades on request.
Meghalaya is one of the rainiest places on earth, so brief showers can occur even October-May. We plan mornings for the key sights and you should carry an umbrella or poncho.
Yes - we can upgrade to romantic stays and add couple touches. We also offer a dedicated Meghalaya honeymoon package with a gentler, more private pace.
