Important Notes
Please read before booking
Fitness: The living-root-bridge treks involve long stone stairways — the Nongriat double-decker is around 3,500 steps down and back up. A reasonable level of fitness makes it far more enjoyable; take the climb slow.
Rain & Leeches: Trails get slippery when wet. In the monsoon, wear grippy shoes and leech socks; we start early to beat the afternoon rain.
Stays: Villages like Nongriat offer simple, clean homestays — basic but wonderfully authentic, right by the root bridges and pools.
Guide: A local guide accompanies the trek for safety and stories. Carry water, snacks and a torch; some pools are perfect for a refreshing dip.
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before you book
At least three of note - the famous Nongriat double-decker (via a trek), Rainbow Falls' surrounding root-bridge country, and the easily accessible Riwai single-decker bridge near Mawlynnong. There are several smaller ones along the trails too.
It is a balanced blend - one proper trekking day to Nongriat with a homestay, plus easy sightseeing days for Cherrapunji, Dawki and Mawlynnong. It suits travellers who want the signature trek without an all-trekking itinerary.
It is the one strenuous day - about 3,500 steps down and back up over two days (with a night at Nongriat). The rest of the tour is gentle. Reasonable fitness is enough; you go at your own pace.
Yes - a local guide accompanies the Nongriat trek for safety and to share the fascinating story of how the root bridges are grown and maintained by Khasi communities.
October to April, when trails are drier and safer and the pools are inviting. The monsoon makes steps slippery and brings leeches, so we avoid peak-monsoon trekking departures.
Yes - the natural pools near the double-decker bridge and at Rainbow Falls are gorgeous for a swim in the dry season. Carry quick-dry clothes and a small towel.
Comfortable hotels in Shillong and Cherrapunji, and a simple, clean village homestay at Nongriat during the trek. The homestay is basic but authentic and central to the experience.
Ideal - it is a social, adventurous itinerary that friends love, mixing the trek with the Dawki river and village visits. We can arrange group stays and transport.
